Jason Wordie is a historian and writer. A graduate in History from Hong Kong University, Jason Wordie makes his home in the New Territories. For more than 25 years, he has been a regular columnist for the South China Morning Post; his current column, Then and Now, appears every Sunday in the Post Magazine and covers little-known aspects of local history, culture and society, typically enlivened with a contemporary twist.
Due to popular demand, Macao: People and Places, Past and Present was reissued in hardback by Praia Grande Edições in late 2024 in a revised, hardback edition. First published in 2013, this magisterial work of social history and urban exploration contains a new Preface by the author.
As part of the Macao Literary Festival, Jason will lead a two-hour historical walking exploration around Barra, at the southern end of the Inner Harbour. Our route will include key features of the area’s fascinating built heritage and social history as documented, discussed and described in Macao: People and Places, Past and Present – much of which lies just off more usual pedestrian routes.
Come along prepared to be informed, enlivened and entertained by the extensive range of anecdotal detail about Macao’s extensive history that this fascinating urban exploration will reveal.
Two Barra historical walks will be offered, each a week apart.
